Lord God, You reveal yourself to us in many ways - though Your Word, Your presence. and even though nature itself. With reverent awe we respond to Your revelation with joy and delight as we gather to worship and praise You in Jesus' Name. Amen.
God of love, God of mercy, God of all power! We come this day, humbly, gratefully, and sincerly seeking to do Your will by following Your Son who taught us to pray, saying : Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
30 What I’m about to tell you is true. The people living now will certainly not pass away until all those things have happened. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away. But my words will never pass away.
32 “But no one knows about that day or hour. Not even the angels in heaven know. The Son does not know. Only the Father knows. 33 Keep watch! Stay awake! You do not know when that time will come. 34 It’s like a man going away. He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge. Each one is given a task to do. He tells the one at the door to keep watch.
35 “So keep watch! You do not know when the owner of the house will come back. It may be in the evening or at midnight. It may be when the rooster crows or at dawn. 36 He may come suddenly. So do not let him find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to everyone. ‘Watch!’ ”
Deep down, we know that you love us—we’ve experienced your mercy and your faithfulness in the past, and it has sustained us through many difficult times. We refuse to believe that you have deserted us, or that you are unaware of the pain that we’re feeling. And so we turn to you again, longing for your presence, looking for your comfort and peace. Surround us with your unfailing love. Remind us that you alone are God, and that you hold us in the palm of your hand. Give us courage and strength to face the days ahead, and strengthen us in the knowledge that we do not face them alone. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord, we pray. Amen.
